Speed Dating: How to Get to Know Your New Classmates

The goal of our lesson today was getting to know each other with the method called “speed dating.” Sitting next to each other in long lines and having a “potential partner” in front of her, pupils get involved in a dialogue by asking questions, giving answers and returning the questions. The goal of this exercise is to collect as much as possible information about the partner. A few typical questions and used expressions were provided in order to get the dialogues kicked off.

Before taking turns (each “dating session” shouldn’t last longer than 1 or 2 minutes) some pupils can tell the whole group what they have just found out about their partner (transfer from 2nd to 3rd person).

Again, this game proved to be very attactive for a new group of pupils, who don’t know much about each other.
